A workspace is a separate space with its own chats, assistants, prompts, files, tools and default settings. Use workspaces to keep projects, clients or teams apart.

Your Home workspace

Every account starts with a Home workspace. It's where you land after signing in, and it can't be deleted.

Switch workspaces

The workspace switcher is at the top of the sidebar - it shows the current workspace, e.g. Home. Click it (or press Ctrl;) and pick a workspace. Use Search workspaces... if you have many.

Create a workspace

  1. Open the workspace switcher (Ctrl;).
  2. Click New Workspace.
  3. Give it a name. You can change everything else later.

Workspace settings

Click the gear next to the workspace switcher to open Workspace Settings. It has two tabs:

Main

  • Name and Image - how the workspace appears in the switcher.
  • Instructions - optional text the AI follows in every chat in this workspace, such as "Answer in British English" or "You are helping the Acme marketing team."

Defaults

The model, prompt, temperature and context length that new chats in this workspace start with. Existing chats keep their own settings.

Delete a workspace

In Workspace Settings, choose Delete, then type the workspace's name to confirm.

Team workspaces

Workspaces created in the Business console can be shared with members and published as a branded chat site. See Members & roles and Workspace visibility.
