Thinking mode
See a model's step-by-step reasoning before its final answer.
Some models can reason through a problem step by step before giving their final answer. Thinking Mode shows you that reasoning, so you can follow - and check - how the model reached its conclusion.
Turn it on
- Choose a model marked Thinking Supported in the model selector.
- Click the Thinking Mode button under the message box so it reads Thinking Mode: ON.
- Ask your question.
The button only appears for models that support it. You can also switch it in chat settings.
Read the reasoning
While the model works you'll see a Thinking indicator. When it's done, the reply starts with a collapsible Thinking Process section, followed by the final answer. Expand it to read the reasoning, collapse it to focus on the answer.
When to use it
Thinking mode is most useful for:
- Maths, logic and multi-step problems
- Debugging and code review
- Decisions where you want to see the trade-offs
Some reasoning models always include their reasoning. For those, you'll see it whether or not the button is on.
